A cow standing in the roadway caused a vehicle collision early Tuesday morning, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The OHP reported that at about 1:33 a.m., two miles west of Sweetwater on State Highway 152, a truck driven by Stigler resident Austin Blane Bishop, 20, struck a cow that was in the road.
Bishop then lost control and entered the opposite lane of traffic, where he was hit in the passenger side by a pickup driven by James L. Burch, 56, of Roswell, N.M.
The report states that Bishop and his passenger, 17-year-old Sayre resident Teresa Danielle Sanders, were ejected from the vehicle.
They were not wearing seatbelts.
Both were transported to Sayre Memorial Hospital and released. Bishop sustained leg injuries and Sanders had external trunk, arm and leg injuries.
Burch was pinned for approximately one hour before being freed by the Sweetwater Fire Department. He was taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City, then transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City with both internal and external trunk, and leg injuries. He was listed in serious condition.
The OHP was assisted on-scene by the Beckham County Sheriff's Department, as well as Erick and Roger Mills County EMS.
