Elk City Fire Log - 02/16/2012

02/08/12: At 8:56 a.m. fire crews responded to a two vehicle accident at Randall and Third Street. The vehicles, a Dodge Dakota and a Toyota Camry, collided in the intersection. The Camry doors had to be opened with jaws. All occupants were transported to the ER.

02/08/12: At 10:54 a.m. the fire department responded to a two vehicle accident at North Highway 34 and Highway 66. The vehicles collided at the intersection and one vehicle, a van, veered off the intersection and ended up in a ditch. One occupant was in the car and two were in the van. All occupants were moved to an ambulance and transported to the hospital.

02/08/12: At 3 p.m. the fire department reported to a construction site off of Los Quartos Inn in response to a fire that had already been put out. Police officers were already on scene when fire personnel arrived. The police department first chose not to involve the fire department because the fire had been extinguished for a while. But, an insurance company had called for a full fire report. The job superintendent at the construction site told fire crews that three pallets of exterior finish product and some styrofoam had burned. The superintendent said the fire occurred overnight but was out and cold by the time morning arrived. Crews found evidence of the fire as described on the floor. There was no outstanding evidence that this was an intentional fire due to limited damage and materials found near the building.

02/09/12: At 1:36 p.m. fire crews were called to the 100 block of Mockingbird Lane in response to a dumpster fire. The fire was already extinguished before crews arrived on the scene. A nearby neighbor advised fire personnel that he had dumped charcoal into the dumpster earlier in the day.

Sponsored by Hot Spot Truck and Car Wash02/10/12: At 3:40 p.m. the fire department responded to the 100 block of West 5th Street in response to a baby locked in a vehicle. The vehicle was off and keys were locked inside. The door was unlocked and the baby did not suffer any injuries.

02/11/12: At 4:50 a.m. fire crews responded to the 1000 block of Elkwood Boulevard in response to large quantities of smoke. Crews discovered the smoke to be steam coming from the swimming pool. No fire was found.

02/12/12: At 3:46 a.m. the fire department was called to mile marker 33 on Interstate 40 in response to a small grass fire. Crews found the fire had started in the median. The cause was undetermined.

02/12/12: At 3:58 p.m. emergency units responded to a single vehicle accident one mile west of Highway 6 from Highway 66. The vehicle was overturned in the south ditch. Two occupants were in the vehicle. The driver refused EMS care and the passenger was transported to Great Plains Regional Medical Center ER.

02/12/12: At 4:30 p.m. fire crews were called to mile marker 46 on Interstate 40 Access Road west bound. A single pick up truck was rolled over on its top. The driver was out of the vehicle with no injuries. Crews determined the cause of the collision was due to weather conditions.

02/12/12: At 8:24 p.m. the fire department was called to mile marker 43 on Interstate 40 in response to a wreck involving semi-trucks. The call was cancelled before crews arrived on the scene.

02/12/12: At 8:45 p.m. fire crews were called to Clarion Inn in response to a fire alarm going off. Residents told fire crews the alarm had been ringing for two hours but he did not smell any smoke. The alarm was off when crews arrived. After investigation, fire personnel found a strong smell of cigarette smoke around the fire alarm, which could have been the cause of the alarm activation.

02/13/12: At 9:51 p.m. emergency units were called to the intersection of West 5th Street and South State Street for visible smoke in the area. No fire was found and smoke dissipated after investigation.
