Police chase ends with meth rap

Daily Elk Citian Community News - Elk City, OklahomaAn Elk City man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly started a car chase and was found with methamphetamine.

Terry Shearin, 46, was pulled over by an Elk City police officer on a routine traffic stop, according to a preliminary report.

As the officer checked the man's identification, a K-9 unit was dispatched to conduct a "free air" sniff around the vehicle. The K-9 officer wrote in the report that the dog alerted to the driver's side door.

At that time, a third officer attempted to remove Shearin from the truck, but the man allegedly cursed at the officer and started the vehicle. The officer said he reached inside the truck to take the keys but Shearin began speeding away from the scene, causing the officer to run alongside it for approximately 20 or 30 feet until his arm was clear.

All three officers then began pursuit of the truck and followed it from the original stop at Washington Avenue and Avenue F to just west of Van Buren Avenue and Gregory Road.

Shearin then stopped, opened his door and put his hands in the air. The first officer drew his firearm and ordered Shearin to exit the vehicle, but according to the report he did not comply. The other two officers covered him with their handguns, allowing the first officer to pull Shearin from the vehicle. He allegedly had to be forced to the ground by two of the officers.

After Shearin was secured, officers continued to search his vehicle and found a broken glass pipe and a crystalline substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, the report states.

The arresting officer wrote that he suspected Shearin poured the substance out during the chase.

Shearin was booked for attempting to elude an officer, possession of a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a public park, possessing drug paraphernalia and driving without a valid license.
