Sayre man shot; 2 in custody

A Sayre man is in the hospital after a shooting Wednesday night, while the alleged shooter and another man are in jail.

Sayre Police Department Chief Ronnie Harrold said 27-year-old Billy Heflin of Sayre is suspected in the shooting of John Bohannon, 53, who was shot in the torso. Police were called at approximately 6:40 p.m.

Bohannon was taken to Sayre Memorial Hospital, then flown by helicopter to an Oklahoma City Hospital. He was listed in stable condition, said Harrold.

"At this time we don't have a motive. We believe possibly two groups of people were arguing. We don't know at this time," said Harrold.

According to Sayre Police, Heflin allegedly fired a 12-gauge shotgun from a vehicle that was in the 200 block of east Locust Avenue. The shotgun was recovered and the driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Reydon resident Kyle Mabra, was also taken into custody.

Harrold said it appears the two vehicles met in the road, and Bohannon had stepped out of his vehicle, while Heflin remained in his.

The information is preliminary, he said, and the investigation is still in its early stages. The police department does not have much information in the case, and charges have not been filed.
