Life of a Sports Guy: Super Commercial Time

Derek Brown, Daily Elk Citian - Sports Opinions - Elk City, OklahomaBy Derek Brown

As another year passes another World Champion will be crowned on Saturday.

Will the Giants pull off one of the strangest campaigns to end as the NFL's best of the season? Or will Tom Brady and company remember 2007 and redeem themselves against New York? Let's take a look.

In 2007 the Patriots were 18-0 and had only the Giants standing in their way to finish 19-0. Well the fairy tale story did not end exactly how the Pats thought it would. I'm sure Brady was thinking that this team will be named with the 1972 Miami Dolphins, who are the only team to finish 19-0.

This year has been an interesting season for the Giants. They go from almost firing Tom Coughlin to winning their last two games to slip into the playoffs and winning the NFC East. They went on to romp the Falcons 24-2. New York then traveled to Green Bay to take on what everybody thought was going to be the Super Bowl Champions. The Packers were 15-1 and were a perfect 8-0 at home. It was a bit of a surprise to see the reigning World Champs were eliminated 37-20. The Giants then advanced to the NFC Championship game against the 49ers. Which was an incredibly close game that was won in overtime by the Giants 20-17.

The Patriots had a first-round playoff bye and crushed Tim Tebow and the Mile-High believers 45-10 in Boston. Then the Pats' AFC Conference game against the Ravens could have easily gone Baltimore's way. The Ravens missed a field goal at the end of the game for the Pats to advance to the Super Bowl 23-20.

It's an interesting rematch between the Pats and the Giants. Eli Manning against Tom Brady, Green-Ellis against Bradshaw, and Welker against Cruz. Manning has thrown 29 touchdowns and 4933 yards. Brady threw 39 touchdowns and 5234 yards this year. Green-Ellis and Bradshaw are very close to even in carries, yards, and touchdowns. Welker and Cruz both have nine touchdown catches this year.

So who wins this rematch? The line is New England by three points.

If the Pats are able to give Brady time to find his two tight ends or Welker then this could get ugly really quick. But in 2007 the Giants d-line was able to get Brady on the turf, which was the difference in the game in my opinion.

The Giants have will need to balance their offense against the Patriots. But the New England defense is not great at all this year.

I think that this Super Bowl will be a shootout. I'm not going to bet against Tom Brady in a rematch of the 2007 Super Bowl.

While I'm not completely confident in that pick I am confident that the commercials this Sunday will be ones to watch.
