Four Elk City High School students have been on point recently.
Fittingly, it’s the sporting clays team, which qualified for the state meet thanks to a third place finish at the Southwestern District Meet in Altus on Wednesday.
Juniors Dustin Ferris and Dylan Miller, along with Cameron Marcum (senior) and Carter Muncrief (sophomore) will represent ECHS at the state meet, held on November 8 by the Oklahoma Gun Club at Arcadia Lake in Edmond.
“They were pretty good shooters,” FFA advisor Larry Long said. “I thought they could make it.”
There are five districts in Oklahoma and each will bring four teams to the state meet. The ECHS squad that qualified for state was a “senior” group, which is comprised mostly of upperclassmen. Elk City’s junior team placed sixth overall.
While firing Remington .870 shotguns at meets, competitors have the option to use a .20 gauge or .12 gauge gun, then rotate to four stations.
CANUTE JUNIOR TEAM QUALIFIES
The Canute junior team took second at the District Meet in Altus, advancing to the November 8 state meet. Cody Edler, Britton Warnke, Tyler Trissell, and Mason Helvey are the Trojans who qualified.
