Dear Editor,
With the winter holidays just around the corner, there will be a lot of people alone, with no family close or far away. They will be lonely, feeling lost, or maybe even a little depressed.
It's not just the elderly. They are all ages and from all walks of life.
Please everyone out there, put yourself in their place and take just a moment and give a kind word and smile. It doesn't hurt a bit to smile and greet someone. You never know whose life you might make happier, for a little while at least. Take just a moment of your time, out of our busy schedules. It also teaches our children compassion and courtesy. Even listening a moment to someone else would be great.
I had an awesome experience on Labor Day weekend that helped me. I was feeling down and lonely. It seemed everyone was going somewhere and had someone to go with. I was at work and stopped in the hall to greet and chat a moment with a cowboy who was waiting for his son or grandson. (I don't remember which right now.) It seemed I had known him forever. I'll always remember how easy he was to talk with, he knew how it felt to lose a husband or wife (he said like losing a part of your body). Especially if they were your best friend, as mine was. Sometime strangers are like that. What he said as we parted and I walked away made me laugh and smile a number of times since. Thank you. Something a good friend would say to you. I regret not getting his name or giving him mine for he would be a good friend, and we never have too many friends. Maybe we will meet again some day. I hope so. Wherever you are, bless you friend, you made my day. I hope someone listens to your feelings too. (I'm eager for each new day to start now).
So everyone out there give a gift of your time, smile, wish someone a good day.
What goes around comes back around to you and members of your family.
Happy Holidays to everyone.
Jean Davis
