Elk City eye clinic welcomes new resident physician

Brett Wagner, Elk City, OklahomaBVA Advanced Eye Care of Elk City is pleased to welcome Brett J. Wagner, O.D. as our 2011-12 resident in Ocular Disease.  Under the guidance of BVA physicians, Robin Smith, O.D. and Kamran Massoumi, M.D., Dr. Wagner will devote his year of residency to advancing his clinical training and proficiency and expanding the scope and depth of his knowledge of ocular disease and surgery.

Dr. Wagner graduated in May 2011 from the Southern College of Optometry (SCO) located in Memphis, Tennessee.  SCO ranks as one of the nation’s leading institutions of optometric education with its students consistently outscoring the national average in board scores and graduation rates.

Dr. Wagner received extensive clinical experience and hands-on specialized course work as a student at SCO.  During two recent externships, he provided primary visual care for an Indian Health Service site serving the Yupik Eskimo population of Western Alaska and also to a busy optometric practice in Virginia. Externships are  practical learning opportunities, similar to internships, offered by educational institutions to give students practical experience in their field of study.

As the largest cataract practice in the state, the physicians and staff at BVA Advanced Eye Care are dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the quality of life for patients and their families throughout Oklahoma.  Ophthalmologist and optometric physicians are primary health care providers who specialize in the examination, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye and associated structures as well as the diagnosis of related systemic conditions.
