New year brings dramas, musicals, comedies

The 47th season membership drive has now been kicked-off by the Red Carpet Community Theatre.  In its traditional mission to bring theatre arts to Western Oklahoma for the young and young at heart we have selected four dynamic productions.  

We will open with Proof – a thought provoking, award-winning drama, deals with coping with death and mental illness.  Throughout, the play explores Catherine’s fear of following in her father’s footsteps, both mathematically and mentally and her desperate attempts to stay in control.  The show runs April 23 – 29, 2012.  

Join us with laughter and tears at the new musical Hats! The Musical.  Exploding with fun, Hats! is a new musical about a 49.999 year-old woman who reluctantly faces the inevitable BIG 5-0…until she meets several remarkable women who show her about fun, friendship and forgetting about things that simply don’t matter anymore.  It is a joyous, provocative, and hilarious evening for everyone who is 50, knows anyone who is 50 or plans to be 50. Show dates are June 24 – 30, 2012.

Start your toes tapping for our major summer musical Footloose- August 6 – 12, 2012. One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results.  Join Ren and the cast as they perform “Let’s Hear It for the Boy”, “Holding on for the Hero” and the classic “Footloose”.  This musical is sure to leave you dancing in the aisle.  

This Christmas remember the meaning of the holidays with The Littlest Angel - December 2 – 8, 2012.  There was, in Paradise, a most unruly small boy known throughout Heaven as the Littlest Angel.  He sang off-key and his halo was tarnished.  Then he meets the Understanding Angel and explains how difficult it is for a boy who suddenly finds himself transformed into an angel and that he’s unhappy because he longs for a box of toys that he left under his bed.  

A Heavenly Messenger brings the box and the Littlest Angel is overjoyed.  But his isn’t the only joy in Heaven, for Jesus is to be born.  The Littlest Angel has only one thing to give and he places his box among the other splendid presents.  It shines out from the heavens, becoming what men will forever call the Shining Star of Bethlehem.
