With over a million holiday lights and the perfect place to create Christmas memories with the entire family Elk City welcomes visitors to the Annual Elk City Christmas in the Park Special Events this weekend, Friday & Saturday, Dec. 9 & 10 and next Friday & Saturday, Dec. 16 & 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
And as in years past, visitors can drive through the park and view over a million lights and holiday-themed displays every night from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. until New Year’s Eve.
The special events all take place at Ackley Park located on Historic Route 66 and admission remains FREE to all visitors. Activities this year include: train rides on the Candy Cane Express, old fashioned horse-drawn carriage rides, free hotdogs & cocoa and holiday ornament shopping at the Gingerbread Gift Shoppe. Light tours on the ole’ Double-Decker bus and the Centennial Carousel also will be available for kids of all ages. Of course, the festivities wouldn’t be complete without a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.
“It doesn’t get any better than this when it comes to holiday fun for the entire family,” said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Susie Cupp. “Christmas in the Park is not only the largest Christmas light display in all of western and southwestern Oklahoma, but also the Best! It is without doubt, one of the most special parts of the holiday season in Elk City and we hope everyone will bring their loved ones out this weekend and next to enjoy the fun.”
Local businesses and organizations are generously donating their time to make this event a continued success and free to all families. They include: Christmas in the Park Committee, Elk City Education Association, Legacy Bank, Great Plains National Bank, First National Bank, Rotary Club of Elk City, One Church, Football Boosters & Big Elk Football Players, Elk City Chamber of Commerce, Elk City Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the City of Elk City.
Each year the millions of lights turn Ackley Park into a miniature tinsel town. Some of the light displays at this year’s Christmas in the Park include: Angels in the Outfield, Cowboy Corner, Ice Skating Rink, Old World Santa and the Silver Bell’s Orchestra ensemble.
And don’t miss seeing Tessica Carter, 2012 Miss Queen of the West as she leads visitors, young and old alike, in beautiful Christmas caroling on Saturday Dec. 10.
