Elk City Masonic Lodge donates to Hugs Project

Elk City Masonic Lodge donates to Hugs ProjectThe Elk City Masonic Lodge donated $1000 to the Hugs Project in Oklahoma City. The project’s mission is to provide every American military member serving in the Middle East with a “Hug,” or neckcooler.

The neckcoolers lower body core temperatures by 7+ degrees.

Each week, the organization also sends care packages with items that are difficult for troops to get. This year, they will send 4,500 special Christmas boxes.

“They do everything,” Sol Hatfield, Elk City Masonic Lodge member, said. “They don’t just send food. They’ll maybe buy a ticket home for them or something like that.”

The program was founded in June 2004 in Edmond and, since then they have sent over 1 million “Hugs,” about 175,000 books and more than 400 tons of care pacakges.

No one working for the project receives a salary so all donations go directly to the cause. If you would like to donate, visit www.thehugsproject.com.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people in the U.S. don’t know about this project,” Sol said.

The organization makes sure our troops are fully supported and that they are not forgotten.
