Leon Horton

Leon Horton was born June 25, 1927 in Foster, Oklahoma to Georgie Margarite and Cadmus Lee Horton. He passed away August 22, 2011 at Portales, New Mexico at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 27 days.

Leon grew up in Garvin county and moved to Oklahoma City with his parents. Leon served his country in the European Theatre during World War II. After his discharge he was married to Ellen Bohde in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on February 27, 1947 and they made their home in Oklahoma City where he worked for Catline Dodson Drilling Company and Acme Tool. Leon moved to Lindsay, Oklahoma where he continued to work for Acme Tool, then owned Ranch House Restaurant and a liquor store. He later owned and operated Dalon Fishing and Tool Rental. He moved to Elk City, Oklahoma in 1978 and was married to Sandy Corbett in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 18, 1987 as they continued to make Elk City their home they owned and operated Dalon Inc., Triple Q Inc. and Roadway Services.

He was a member of the Elk City Community Church and the Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 sisters, 3 brothers and 1 great grandson.

He is survived by his children, Lanora Ellen Horton, Bethany, OK, Judy Claudette Huff and husband, John, Oklahoma City, OK, Sallie Powers and husband, Ray, Elk City, OK, Edward Lee Corbett and wife, Dawn, Mathis, TX, DeeDee Feltman and husband, Steve, Cordell, OK; 1 brother, Floyd Nunn, Lone Oak, TX; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, and a host of other relatives and friends including "the boys" Winston and Theodor.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Services were held Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. at Elk City Community Church, officiated by Pastor Burl Timms. Additional services were held Monday, August 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Elmore City First Baptist Church. Burial followed at Elmore City Cemetery under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.
